Dam Cover FAQ

How efficient is the Enviro Dam Cover in combating evaporation?

Field testing by ACS Laboratories has proven that the Enviro Dam Cover reduces evaporation by up to 70% (read more). It is designed to rise when rains come to allow the inflow of water to refill the dam.

The Enviro Dam Cover relies on easy DIY installations, thus cutting costs as well as enabling one to easily remove the dam cover if desired. With water losses of over 7,000 gigalitres yearly from the Murray/Darling catchments, any effort to reduce evaporation will assist farmers throughout Australia's largest food belt.

Dam Covers are not widely used in the farming and irrigation industries. Is it really worth the expense to invest in a Enviro Dam Cover?

With the cost of water sky-rocketing due to the drought and now being reported as being between $1000 and $1400 per megalitre, investing in an Enviro Dam Cover is making more and more good financial sense.

By dramatically reducing the evaporation of expensive water resources, Enviro Dam Covers generally pay for themselves in less than 3 years. Check out our cost savings calculator to work out how long it would take for your Enviro Dam Cover to pay for itself.

Does the Enviro Dam Cover have a beneficial impact on the environment?

There are a number of benefits known to date, including a drastic reduction of water evaporation and the recycling of plastic bottles as floatation devices. As the dam cover becomes more widely used, further benefits to the environment may well be discovered.

There are other water evaporation products on the market today. Why should farmers be interested in the Enviro Dam Cover?

The Enviro Dam Cover is highly affordable compared to other options due to the low cost of both the materials and the DIY assembly. The dam cover material has over the years been proven to be highly durable and thus requires less maintenance than other dam cover materials. If damage should occur to the material, small sections can easily be repaired by hand.

We therefore believe that this product is not only a high quality dam cover, but also the most affordable alternative available on the market today.

Where was the product developed and where is it manufactured?

The raw materials are sourced from China, but the design and assembling is done here in Australia. This brand new concept is not available anywhere in the world today and made its lauch at the recent Irrigation Expo 2008. With the right marketing and support Enviro Dam Covers will change the landscape in regional Australia for the better.

Is the Enviro Dam Cover an entirely new concept or is it an improvement on an existing process?

The Enviro Dam Cover builds on existing attempts to reduce evaporation from water catchments and came about as a result of experimenting wih water salinity treatments to assist developing nations in their disaster relief efforts.

The dam cover consists of flexible polypropylene sheets with hollow channels that assist the floatation. By using recycled plastic bottles, the sheeting remains above the water level maintaining a good level of oxygen supplies to the water.
